Solar Panel Installation
Agricultural solar panel installation requires specialist expertise that general solar companies simply don't have. Farm buildings present unique structural challenges — from asbestos cement roofing on older barns to the wide-span steel portal frames of modern livestock housing. Our installation team has completed over 1,200 agricultural projects across the UK, working with dairy farms, poultry operations, arable holdings, and mixed enterprises of every size. We handle every stage of the installation process, from initial site assessment through to commissioning and DNO (Distribution Network Operator) connection. For farms, getting the grid connection right is critical — rural three-phase supplies, G99 applications for systems over 16A per phase, and export limitation agreements all require specialist knowledge. We manage every DNO application and have established relationships with all major network operators including UKPN, WPD, SSEN, and SP Energy Networks. Our structural assessment process is designed specifically for agricultural buildings. We evaluate roof condition, purlin spacing, truss loading capacity, and foundation integrity before recommending any installation. Older steel-framed buildings from the 1970s-1990s typically require load calculations to confirm panel weight can be supported without reinforcement. Asbestos cement roofing — still common on UK farms — must be professionally removed and replaced before solar installation. We manage the complete asbestos process including licensed removal, new roof sheeting, and solar panel fitting. System sizing for farms differs fundamentally from residential or commercial installations. We analyse your actual half-hourly meter data to match system size to your energy consumption patterns. A dairy farm with twice-daily milking has a very different load profile to an arable operation with seasonal grain drying demand. Getting this right maximises self-consumption (using the electricity you generate rather than exporting it) and delivers the fastest return on investment. Typical agricultural installations range from 20kW on smaller barn roofs to 500kW+ across multiple buildings on large commercial farms. System costs range from £15,000 for a 20kW system to £300,000+ for large multi-building installations. With FETF grants covering 25% of costs and annual savings of £8,000-£140,000 depending on system size, most farms achieve payback within 2-4 years. Every installation uses MCS-certified equipment and is completed by our own directly-employed installation teams — we never subcontract. This ensures consistent quality, proper commissioning, and eligibility for Smart Export Guarantee payments and government grant schemes. All systems come with 25-year panel performance warranties, 10-year inverter warranties, and our own 5-year workmanship guarantee.
